The Deal: Simmons thought he was a soldier in the Red army, fighting the Blue army. Both of these "armies" were frauds set up by a top secret military project to run simulations using the worst soldiers they could get their hands on. After a zany adventure where he and his fellow rejects (and some ex spec-ops people) brought that crashing down, Simmons and his friends were supposed to go home. Instead, their ship crashed on a colony embroiled in civil war and they became heroes by saving it.

What's he like?: Simmons is an awkward, anxious, brown-nosing nerd who just wants to be liked and maybe respected. It's hard because he's also a pedantic jackass a lot, and tries to make up for his insecurities by getting waaaay too invested in controlling inconsequential details.

One time his team's sergeant decided they needed a cyborg and used spare parts to turn Simmons into one, so there's also that.
